SCAT adding and altering service

14 03 2011

This article outlines a few changes to SCAT routes in Springfield.  1) A bus (Route 3?) will now be heading to where the new hospital is located.  This route currently goes to Upper Valley Medical Center.  2) A three-month trial run will be going to Northridge (north of Springfield).  This is an expanded route and will cost an addition .25.  We’ll see what ridership is like.

Springfield stays with Bus Co. for now

13 12 2010

SCAT has been making the news recently.  This article covering a Springfield City commissioner’s meeting discusses a vote to extend the contract of the current operator Springfield Bus Co., for up to six months.  Both the Springfield Bus Co. and First Transit of Cincinnati, whose proposal was apparently for less, will both need to make new proposals.

Extending service to western Clark County

21 11 2010

This article discusses a possible opportunity to add a SCAT bus route (or possible multiple routes) to rural western Clark County.   Most of the townships and villages are rather rural, but New Carlisle is a town of over 5,000 residents.

I am all in favor of adding new routes, especially to un-served areas (New Carlisle does not have any regular transit at this time), but I am not sure if a route to Springfield is the best transit for New Carlisle (and area residents).  My guess is that many residents in this area would have greater employment opportunities in the Dayton MSA area.  Ideally, connections to both would be advantageous.
